Games developer Cryptic Studios and publisher Atari have announced that the MMORPG Champions Online will soon be availabe as a free-to-play version, in addition to the existing premium option. John Needham, CEO of Cryptic Studios, said "Transitioning Champions Online to the free-to-play model is a great opportunity to reach a whole new audience of PC gamers that view subscription fees as a barrier to entry." The free version will have several features including unlimited game play, PvP combat, equipment crafting, base travel powers and fully customizable heroes.
The free-to-play version of Champions Online will go into the Closed Beta phase of testing on 9th November. A selection of existing players will be chosen to participate in the CBT, and opportunities for new players to participate should arise in the coming weeks.
